There are various suppliers who you can use.  Skype, Microsoft MSN and Yahoos messenger. All of them offer a phone service to other users of the same software.

The exception to the list is Skype that offers a service that doesn’t only go to other skype users but also to landlines as well and allows landlines to call you. There will be a small charge usually at local rates rather than international call charges.

Video can also be done via the web by the same suppliers using your webcam; this process needs a broadband link, holding a video meeting /conference with the family or friends in Australia or elsewhere.
